Endoscopic surgery and diagnostics

Endoscopic surgery is becoming increasingly popular in modern veterinary medicine. With this method, we can visually assess the condition of internal organs, the gastrointestinal tract, respiratory and excretory systems without using a scalpel. We can perform such operations as sterilization of dogs and cats, removal of testes from the abdominal cavity in cryptorchids, as well as various assisted operations.

Endoscopy is a procedure for examining the cavities of a living organism. It is performed using a flexible or rigid endoscope with the image displayed on the screen

The advantage of endoscopic surgery is its minimally invasive nature: minimal contact of the surgeon's hands with internal organs, minimal trauma, punctures from 3 to 5 mm, no skin sutures and no need to wear a postoperative girdle, and a quick recovery period.

Almost all endoscopic examinations are performed under general anesthesia, and therefore require proper preparation and examination of the patient before anesthesia.

• Video otoscopy - examination of the external auditory canals.

Video otoscopy is an additional diagnostic method, the necessity and appropriateness of which is determined by the doctor. It allows to obtain the best visualization of the auditory canal, eardrum, and, if necessary, the middle ear cavity. During video otoscopy, certain medical procedures can be performed, such as rinsing the external auditory canal, middle ear, biopsy, removal of polyps and foreign bodies.

It is carried out in two stages: posterior retrograde rhinoscopy allows to examine the lumen of the nasopharynx and choanae, anterior integral rhinoscopy allows to examine the nasal passages and shells.
Indications: sneezing, nasal discharge, nosebleeds, nasal bleeding, difficult nasal breathing, sneezing back, pain and deformation of the facial part of the skull, a known episode of inhalation of a foreign object.
Often before rhinoscopy, X-ray diagnostics is necessary

Laryngoscopy allows to evaluate its structure and function. Indications: stridor, poor exercise tolerance, shortness of breath, cyanosis of the mucous membranes, change or loss of voice, cough after eating and drinking. It is usually performed as a component of laryngotracheoscopy or laryngotracheobronchoscopy.

It is indicated for dogs of brachycephalic breeds to evaluate changes in the larynx and lower airways and for breeds at risk of tracheal collapse. For other patients: in case of suspected inhalation of foreign objects, neoplasms and chronic diseases of the lower respiratory tract. During the procedure, bronchoalveolar lavage BAL (lower respiratory tract lavage) can be collected for further cytological, bacteriological or other specific studies, as well as biopsy of intraluminal neoplasms.

It is indicated in case of suspected pathologies of the esophagus, stomach, duodenum. It makes it possible to remove a foreign body from the upper gastrointestinal tract without surgery, as well as to take a biopsy.

Requires careful preparation for up to several days before the test. Indications: chronic colon diarrhea, tenesmus, blood and mucus in the stool, suspected colon neoplasm, need for biopsy.

It is administered only to female dogs or males with urethrostomy. Indications: chronic or recurrent urinary tract infections, blood in the urine, difficulty urinating, urinary incontinence.

Separately, vaginoscopy is performed by a reproductive specialist for specific indications or during artificial insemination. Vaginoscopy is always performed as a component of cystourethroscopy.

• Laparoscopic ovariectomy, ovariohysterectomy - removal of ovaries or joint removal of ovaries and uterus in cats and dogs
