Dog castration

Castration of dogs in Kyiv

In the presence of medical indications or in cases where the animal is not involved in breeding, organs that are responsible for reproductive function are completely removed from it. At the Zoolux veterinary clinic, dog castration is performed in a sterile operating room under general anesthesia by experienced surgeons. For females, there are two options for surgical intervention:

  • removal of the uterus and ovaries - ovariohysterectomy;
  • removal of only the ovaries - oophorectomy.

Castration of a male dog involves the removal of the testicles, the price of the procedure depends mainly on: age, weight (the volume of consumables and anesthesia is calculated). The cost of our services is as transparent as possible, you can see the prices in the price list of the clinic.

Advantages and disadvantages of the operation

Among veterinarians, castration of male dogs is considered a technically simple procedure, which, however, requires a competent and responsible approach from the surgeon. Due to the availability of modern equipment of the latest generation and the use of new techniques, we practically do not encounter postoperative complications. The main advantages of castration of males are:

  • lack of marks, escapes, outbreaks of disobedience and aggression;
  • prolonging the life of the animal;
  • improving performance - the dog does not distract from the task set by the owner;
  • reducing the risk of infections of the genitourinary system and the development of malignant tumors with uncontrolled mating;
  • if your pet is a cryptorchid (one or both testicles have not descended into the scrotum), the operation will literally save his life, as it will prevent the development of neoplasms.

The disadvantages are the anesthetic risks that are possible with any operation. That is why we recommend castrating a dog in Kyiv in our clinic, with an operating team and an anesthesiologist in order to completely eliminate any surprises.

How is castration performed and how much does it cost in dogs?

The surgical technique varies from doctor to doctor and can be open or closed. In addition, at the request of the owner or for medical reasons, the scrotum itself can be left or removed. The final cost of castrating a dog is formed based on several factors:

  • type of operation - it can be carried out in several ways: chemical (subcutaneous installation of a hormonal drug), ligation of the seminal canals (vasectomy), radical (removal of the glands completely);
  • the type of anesthesia chosen by the doctor - is selected individually, taking into account the state of health of the animal;
  • preoperative examinations and postoperative rehabilitation.

The exact price of castration of a dog is determined by the doctor after a preliminary examination of the dog and a comprehensive consultation.

Myths about dog castration

Some owners, especially males, believe that a neutered dog becomes practically an invalid, “not a man” and, in general, a poor and unfortunate creature. There are several harmful myths in society that we will try to debunk:

  • he will be offended, but he will not be able to answer - in fact, a castrated individual does not compete with other dogs;
  • he will become fat and clumsy - it depends entirely on you. Do not overfeed the animal and walk with it more;
  • it will grow and develop poorly - perhaps if the operation is performed too early. Castration of small dogs and especially large ones is recommended only after puberty (after 7 months).

A young animal will tolerate the operation more easily, but the procedure can be performed at any age. Do you need castration of an adult dog with high quality and at an affordable cost? Call!
