COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY

COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY (CT)

COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY (CT) WITH CONTRAST for pets on a 16-slice Philips MX 800 IDT machine

COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY (CT for dogs and cats) is a method based on obtaining a layered x-ray image of an organ using a computer. Enlightenment by the X-ray beam of the "body" of the patient is carried out around the longitudinal axis, due to which transverse sections are obtained. Examinations are carried out on the new Philips MX 800 IDT tomograph (16 slices)

What is the advantage of this method?

Computed tomography of the animal allows you to accurately determine the localization and prevalence of the pathological process, as well as evaluate the results of treatment. This is an accurate and modern research method.

CT in the Zoolux clinic allows you to identify and diagnose:

  • metastases in the early stages, planning of surgical intervention and staging of the oncological process;

  • urgent CT - assessment of the whole body in case of polytrauma;

  • vascular pathologies that are generally inaccessible for diagnosis;

  • tomography of the organs of the chest and abdominal cavity with and without contrast;

  • CT of the structures of the nose, ear and brain, which helps to fully assess the changes in complex structures;

  • evaluate kidney function and blood flow in neoplasms;

  • any foreign objects in the body of the animal;

  • pathology of the spine and joints

COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY (CT) WITH CONTRAST for cats and dogs, as well as all exotic animals and rodents

Computed tomography for animals with contrast enhancement is a highly informative diagnostic procedure. It involves a CT scan after the introduction of a radiopaque preparation into the body. The substance is transported by the blood, accumulates in areas with an active blood supply and reflects X-rays. With the help of contrast enhancement, you can make CT images clearer, visualize soft tissues, blood vessels, areas of inflammation and oncology.

HOW IS THE PROCEDURE CARRIED OUT?

  • Computed tomography or CT for animals is carried out in Kyiv at 39 Dmitrievskaya Street (Entrance 2) by a veterinary radiologist, by appointment only.
  • Registration for CT scans of cats and dogs is made  from 9:00 to 12:00.
  • CT for dogs and cats is performed under sedation, under the supervision of doctors from the anesthesiology department.

HOW TO PREPARE ANIMAL FOR CT?

  • Bring with you the results of recent studies (if the studies were not carried out at Zoolux), in the absence of studies, they must be carried out already at the appointment at the clinic.
  • Take with you a doctor's referral indicating the differential diagnoses, the area of study, and the need for the introduction of a contrast agent.
  • Examination by the anesthesiologist before anesthesia.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

Contraindications for computed tomography (CT) of animals:

  • animal pregnancy;
  • rejection of sedatives;
  • severe uncompensated condition of patients, acute kidney disease for CT with contrast

  • How long does a CT procedure take? - Computed tomography takes 15-30 minutes for each examined area, depending on whether contrast is introduced or not.
  • If contrast enhancement is needed, how is the examination performed? - First, a native study is always carried out, then contrast is introduced and another series of images (from 1 to 4) is taken, depending on which vascular phase we need;
  • Do I need to bring the preparation for CT with contrast with me or is it in the clinic? - the clinic has all the necessary preparations for CT with contrast;
  • How long after the examination is the contrast agent removed? - 10-20 minutes after the injection, the contrast agent is already released with urine into the cavity of the bladder, is excreted from the body along with urination;
  • How long after CT does the animal fully recover? - depending on the general condition and related problems, usually up to 60 minutes, all this time the animal is under observation at the hospital;
  • When is the conclusion of the CT examination issued? - the output from the images is prepared within 12 - 48 hours. Image disks are given to the owner when the animal is collected after the CT scan;
  • Where can I see the results of the studies and if my doctor needs information, what should I do? - the results of the study can be viewed in your personal Zoolux electronic account, and the results are also sent to the mail if it is indicated in the animal's questionnaire. If the doctor needs any information, the radiologist contacts the doctor individually. We work with most veterinary clinics in Kyiv and throughout Ukraine and transfer the results of research with recommendations personally to the doctor who leads the animal.
