Is my dog urinating too often?

When should you worry?

If you noticed that your dog began to ask to relieve himself more often, or does it in an unauthorized place, this may indicate health problems.

In some cases, an increase in the frequency of urination can be physiological and not a symptom of disease, for example, puppies urinate more often than adult dogs and this is not a problem. Also, in the winter season, some dogs really like to eat snow, which melts in the body and turns into water, and against the background of increased fluid consumption, diuresis may become more frequent.

      In order to find out the cause of accelerated urination, first of all, you need to pay attention to such points as:

     portions of urine;

     presence of discomfort/pain during urination;

     impurities in urine (blood, sand);

     color of urine (clear, brown, red, purulent);

     scent.

   Frequent urination in small portions is a symptom of the inflammatory process in the lower urinary tract (urethra, bladder). Bacteria, uroliths, and microliths can be the causes of the inflammatory process in the bladder or urethra.

      In the case of frequent urination in large portions, it will be quite difficult to determine the reasons, they can be various.

Common reasons are:

     kidney disease,

     endocrine disorders (diabetes, non-diabetes, Cushing's syndrome, etc.),

     inflammatory diseases accompanied by hyperthermia (for example - inflammation of the uterus - pyo-/hydrometra, babesiosis)

     For the primary diagnosis of the causes of this pathology, an ultrasound of the abdominal cavity and a general urinalysis are required, then the doctor, based on the results of the research and symptoms, will determine the necessary methods of further diagnostics to establish the diagnosis and prescribe effective treatment.
